Sport Overview
The Volleyball Program
Volleyball is a sport built on precision, communication and trust, combining technical skill with teamwork, decision-making and resilience. The GGS Indoor Volleyball program provides students with the opportunity to develop these qualities through structured training, competitive match play and a positive team environment where players are challenged to improve and enjoy the game.
The program caters for both Girls and Boys across the School, with the Girls competition running through Terms 2 and 3 and the Boys competition operating through Terms 1 and 4. Students in Years 5–12 compete across WAJVL, PSA and JPSSA competitions, providing a clear pathway from junior development through to senior competition. Training is structured across Years 5–6, Years 7–9 and Years 10–12, ensuring coaching is age-appropriate and supports the ongoing development of each player.
Training focuses on the key skills and repetition that is required to succeed in volleyball, including serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, defensive positioning and effective team communication. Through skill development, game-based activities and competitive match experience, students learn to apply their skills under pressure while developing confidence and a strong understanding of team roles.
Students who demonstrate a passion and aptitude for the sport are encouraged to explore additional Volleyball WA pathways alongside their school commitments, providing opportunities to continue their development and challenge themselves at higher levels of competition.
Across the program, the emphasis extends beyond performance outcomes. GGS Volleyball aims to develop players who are committed teammates, confident competitors and students who value the importance of communication, resilience and continual improvement both on and off the court.
