The Swimming Program
Swimming is one of the foundation sports at Guildford Grammar School, offering students a comprehensive program that spans every year group and operates throughout the entire school year. Whether a student is swimming their first competitive race at a House Carnival, preparing for the Interschool Swimming Carnival, or training with the senior squad for open water competition, the GGS Swimming program provides a clear pathway supported by expert coaching at every stage of development.
Designed to nurture swimmers of all abilities, the program focuses on developing sound stroke technique, race fitness and competitive confidence in an environment that challenges and supports each student according to their individual goals. Dedicated squad training sessions are offered for both Prep and Senior School swimmers throughout the season, while early-year trials provide students with the opportunity to earn selection into competitive teams and benchmark their progress.
The GGS Swimming calendar is one of the most extensive in the School’s sporting program, featuring House Carnivals, Trophy Events, PSA and ACC competitions, JPSSA and IPSHA carnivals, open water events and a range of junior competitions. This breadth of competition allows every swimmer—from those discovering the sport to experienced competitors—to represent the School, build confidence and pursue meaningful performance goals.
Guildford Grammar School is proud to partner with the Guildford Kalamunda Districts Swimming Club (GKDSC), creating an exceptional swimming pathway that extends beyond the School program. Through this partnership, students have access to Learn to Swim programs, squad training, competitive club racing and high-performance coaching in a seamless development pathway. Whether students are learning essential water skills, aiming to compete at club, state or national level, or pursuing elite performance opportunities, the partnership with GKDSC ensures every swimmer has access to the coaching, support and competitive experiences needed to reach their full potential.

Event dates and participation details are confirmed through Clipboard at the start of each term. Selection trials for PSA and ACC carnivals are held in Term 1; Years 3-12 are trialled through HPE classes.
Program Essentials
Equipment
Racing Swimwear
GGS bathers are required for all HPE classes, squad sessions and competition. Available through the GGS Clothing Shop.
Goggles & FINS
Well-fitted goggles are essential for both technique development and race performance. Students should own and maintain a reliable, tested pair. Fins and kick boards are provided for squad sessions.
Swim Cap
Required for all training and competition. GGS swim caps are also available to borrow for Inter school carnivals, but it is highly recommended that students purchase their own cap for squad training sessions.
Warm Gear & Sunscreen
Appropriate warm clothing, water bottle and a towel are required after early morning pool sessions. SPF 50+ sunscreen is required for outdoor carnival venues.

Katerina McKay
Head of Swimming & Head of Junior Swimming at Guildford KalamundaGK Swimming has appointed Katerina McKay to lead Guildford Grammar School squad training and guide our teams into interschool carnivals.
Katerina brings more than six years of coaching experience across Learn to Swim, squad and performance pathways, including swimmers who have qualified at State and National level.
As a former competitive swimmer herself, she understands the balance required between high-level sport and academic commitments.
Her coaching philosophy focuses on developing the student first and the athlete second, with a strong emphasis on confidence, resilience, teamwork and enjoyment.
Katerina’s goal is to increase student participation in swimming while continuing to build a strong and competitive interschool presence for Guildford Grammar.

Specialised GGS Swimming long sleeves are gifted to selected interschool swimmers.
