Water Polo
Sport Overview
The Water Polo Program
Water Polo at Guildford Grammar School is a dynamic summer sport that provides students with the opportunity to develop their skills, compete in a challenging team environment and build confidence both in and out of the pool.
The GGS Water Polo program is designed to foster a passion for the game while supporting every player to reach their individual potential. Through quality coaching, structured skill development and competitive match play, students are encouraged to improve their technical ability, tactical understanding, fitness and teamwork in a positive and supportive environment.
The Boys program competes in the PSA competition from Years 7–12, with students in Years 5 and 6 participating in the JPSSA competition. The Girls program competes in the Water Polo WA Junior League from Years 7–12, alongside JPSSA competition for Years 5 and 6. Together, these pathways provide students with opportunities to represent the School and enjoy regular competition throughout the summer season.
Weekly training sessions are tailored to each age group and stage of development, ensuring students receive age-appropriate coaching while progressively building the technical, tactical and physical demands of the sport. Players develop strong swimming fitness, ball skills, game awareness and decision-making, while learning the value of communication, resilience and working together as a team.
Across the program, the emphasis extends beyond results. GGS Water Polo is committed to developing students who enjoy the game, strive for continual improvement and contribute positively to their team. Whether students are new to water polo or aiming to compete at a higher level, every player is encouraged to challenge themselves, support their teammates and take pride in representing Guildford Grammar School.
