Sport Overview

The Netball Program

At GGS, netball is offered as a year-round sporting program, providing students with opportunities to train, compete and develop throughout the school year.

The GGS Netball program is designed to foster a love of the game while supporting every player to reach their individual potential. Through quality coaching, structured skill development and competitive match play, students are encouraged to build confidence, challenge themselves and contribute positively to their team.

The program caters for girls from Years 5–12, providing a structured pathway from junior development through to senior competition. During the winter season (Terms 2 and 3), GGS teams compete in the Perth Netball Association Saturday competition. Students also represent GGS in the Associated & Catholic Colleges (ACC) Netball Competition during Terms 2 and 3, providing additional opportunities to compete against other independent schools and further develop their game.

To extend the season, students in Years 7–12 have the opportunity to participate in the Swan Districts Netball Association Spring Competition during Term 4, allowing players to continue their development and gain valuable match experience beyond the winter season.

Weekly training sessions are tailored to each age group, ensuring students receive age-appropriate coaching that builds on existing skills while introducing the technical and tactical elements required to compete effectively at every level. Players develop sound fundamentals, game awareness, decision-making and teamwork in an environment that is both challenging and supportive.

Across the program, the emphasis extends beyond winning. GGS Netball is committed to developing players who enjoy the game, strive for continual improvement and build meaningful connections with their teammates. Students are encouraged to develop habits of discipline, resilience, accountability and respect, qualities that contribute to success both on the court and in everyday life. These habits and behaviours become patterns that support students not only as athletes, but also as confident and capable young people.

Whether students are new to the sport or aspiring to compete at higher levels, the GGS Netball program provides a positive, inclusive environment where every player can grow, contribute and enjoy the lifelong benefits of being part of a team.
