Sport Overview
The Beach Volleyball Program
Beach Volleyball is a sport that supports the technical aspects of indoor volleyball with the added physical and strategic challenges of playing on sand. The GGS Girls Beach Volleyball program brings these two worlds together, providing students in Years 7 through 12 with a vibrant, competitive and genuinely enjoyable sporting experience throughout the summer season.
The program operates across two dedicated morning training sessions each week, with separate sessions scheduled for Years 7-9 and Years 10-12. This structure ensures that coaching is age-appropriate and development-focused, building the serving, passing, setting and attacking skills that underpin competitive beach volleyball. Defensive positioning and court coverage in the two-player or four players format requires quick decision-making and strong communication – skills the program actively develops through game-based training methods.
Internal Friday fixtures provide regular match experience, allowing students to apply what they have learned in training in a competitive but supportive environment. In addition, students represent GGS in external events including the High Schools Beach Volleyball Cup – providing high-quality tournament experience against other schools during the summer season.
