2026 Chapel Gift
2026 Chapel Gift delivers fast times and historic performances!
Some Guildford Grammar School traditions have been part of the School’s history for more than a century, while others have earned their place more recently. Since its introduction in 2003 by staff member Len Fernandes, the Chapel Gift has become one of the School’s most recognisable and anticipated sporting traditions, proudly opening the competitive athletics season each year.
Beginning at the Chapel doors, the race sees one senior male and one senior female representative from each House sprint around the iconic course, with the start timed to the ringing of the Chapel bells. It is a unique event that brings the School community together, celebrating House spirit, determination and athletic excellence.
The 2026 Chapel Gift will long be remembered as one of the finest editions of the event. Under brilliant sunshine and in perfect running conditions, competitors took to a fast track that produced two outstanding record-breaking performances.
Leo (11Sc) stormed to victory in the boys’ race, setting a new Chapel Gift record with a remarkable time of 1:13.32. In the girls’ event, Emily (12SG) also etched her name into the record books, crossing the line in 1:26.63 to break the previous record. Her victory was made even more special as it secured an extraordinary fourth consecutive Chapel Gift title, a remarkable achievement in the event’s history.
Also representing their Houses in the boys’ race were Matthew (11St), Xavier (11SG), James (12He), Alexander (12Be), Saxon (12Wb), Kingston (12Fr) and Jack (12Ha), with each athlete delivering a determined performance.
The girls’ field was equally impressive, with Charlotte (10Sc), Isla (12Fr), Florence (8He), Emily (10Wb), Abby (11St), Isabelle (12Be) and Ava (11Ha) all proudly representing their Houses and producing outstanding performances.
Congratulations to every student who took on the challenging Chapel Gift course. Their commitment, sportsmanship and House pride once again showcased why the Chapel Gift remains one of Guildford Grammar School’s most celebrated sporting traditions and a fitting way to launch another exciting athletics season.
