Rising to the Challenge at the Western Force Cup

The Western Force Cup is a schools-based competition set up and funded by the Western Force in order to promote the growth of rugby across Western Australia. Competing in the competition provides the opportunity for the students to test themselves against varying opposition from across Perth. Many schools competing run successful Rugby Programs competing in their own competitions across Perth.

Guildford Grammar School was well represented at this year’s Western Force Cup, with both our Year 7/8 and Year 9/10 teams enjoying a competitive and highly enjoyable day of rugby.

The Year 7/8 team performed strongly throughout the tournament, winning two of their three matches. Their closest contest came against Aranmore, where they fought hard and fell just short in a competitive 12–7 defeat. The players showed excellent spirit and demonstrated the growing depth of talent within the junior rugby program.

The Year 9/10 team also competed strongly across the day. After a difficult opening match against CBC, the team responded well and gave Aranmore a strong challenge before eventually going down 19–7. They finished the tournament in impressive fashion, running away strongly against Shenton College in their final match.

The day was a fantastic opportunity for our students to play against a range of schools and experience a well-organised rugby carnival. Rugby WA and the Western Force are to be congratulated for putting on such an enjoyable event, with all students thoroughly enjoying the experience.

The strong performances and enthusiasm shown by both teams are indicative of a bright future for the Guildford Grammar Rugby Program, with plenty of promising young players continuing to develop through the ranks.
